About the Position

Foursquare is looking for a Staff Engineer to join our team! While we would prefer candidates based in or around our office hubs in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, or San Francisco, we’re also open to considering remote applicants for this role.

About the team

Foursquare’s Location Platform Data Services engineering team creates and owns various Data Services and APIs for both external and internal usages. We consider ourselves the programmable gateway of Foursquare’s rich and valuable data set. Working with many other groups including product, data engineering, and client success, our team is the nexus between our API clients and Foursquare’s location platform. Our team owns APIs, queryable data sets and data services that the world’s largest brands rely on to move their business forward. We pride ourselves on our customer focus and the ability to continually deliver value to our users. 

About the role

This role requires a deep background in distributed systems to build the core data services, which power multiple location analytics products to improve advertising campaign effectiveness. We want you to be ready to drive team innovation and be eager to learn new skills on a cutting edge platform. The team uses a variety of tools, technologies, and languages to build software (e.g., Delta Lake, Presto, Kinetica, Solr, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Python, Java, Ruby, Scala, Airflow, Luigi, EMR, Databricks, MongoDB, Memcached, Redis, etc.), but experience with equivalent ones will do just fine.

In this role, you’ll 

Develop and maintain Foursquare’s data services and APIs for our location platformBuild scalable and reliable applications to run on Amazon AWSCollaborate with Product, Data Engineering, and Data Science teams on designing, implementing, and maintaining large scale data querying servicesLead cross-team coordination and mentor other engineers on the team

What you’ll need 

8-10 years of software engineering5 years of experience with Big Data technologies5 years of tech lead experienceProfessional experience in at least one of Java, Scala, Python, or RubyExperience building applications on top of large-scale data warehouseExpert knowledge of Big Data and AWS concepts (Lambda, S3, EC2, SAM )Experience working in a fast-paced programming environment with hands-on experience in continuous deployment and agile methodologiesA plus if you have analytical skills, a passion for extracting insights from immense amount of data, and have experience with DockerizationExperience building and supporting data systems used by other Engineering teamsYour own unique talents! At Foursquare, we are committed to providing competitive pay and benefits that are in line with industry and market standards.  Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, and specific office location.

The annual total cash compensation range is $148,000 – $242,250, however actual salaries can vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills and competencies, as well as location. 

Salary is just one component of Foursquare’s total compensation package, which includes restricted stock units, multiple health insurance options, and a wide range of benefits!
